Anyone taken the PSB Exam for Dental Hygiene?

I'll be taking it in February of '08. Do you have any tips for how to study - WHAT to study? Was it really difficult or does preparation really pay off?

Any resourses (books, manuals, websites, etc) that you would recommend?

Thanks a lot!

Who knows about the Canadian Academy Dental hygiene in Mississauga?

how about the instructors?

how much is the tuition?

is that school good? is it hard to get in?

Who knows about the Canadian Academy Dental hygiene in Mississauga?
This is one of the new "private" schools. I believe it is accredited and consequently graduates are eligible to take the National Dental Hygiene Certification exam and be licensed in the Province of Ontario. However, there have been many (I think close on a dozen) new private schools in the last few years and the market for dental hygienists in the Toronto area is pretty much saturated. You risk paying a lot of money for your education and then not being able to find regular work at the end of it. Most hygienists are currently working in 2 - 3 offices in order to achieve close to full time employment and this is without any benefits such as health, drug, sick pay, or pension.

What is a good at-home dental hygiene program for dogs?

I am having my dogs' teeth cleaned at the vet, and I would like to follow-up after that with a regular self-cleaning program for my dogs' teeth to help keep them clean. Recommendations of techniques and products would be greatly appreciated.

What is a good at-home dental hygiene program for dogs?
It is recommended that you get a toothbrush and doggie toothpaste, which is available at Walmart, Target, Petco or Petsmart. This should be done weekly if possible. Also, milk bones and chew toys help keep the plaque off the teeth, which helps tremendously. Some dogs are not into chew toys, but if yours is, then great! I bought this wonderful chew toy for my dog and it has bristles that actually clean his teeth, and he loves it. Thanks for being concerned about your dog's teeth! Alot of people don't and unfortunately this causes SO many health problems down the road. Good luck!
Reply:there are tons of products. obviously the toothbrushes and enzymatic toothpastes at pet stores. the big name in dental treats is greenies, but are pretty expensive- ones like nutrident are a close second. longer lasting bones like nylabone make dental varieties as well. and top of the list is to stay away from canned food! wet food is immeasurably horrible for a dog's dental health
Reply:They have doggie toothbrushes and toothpaste for dogs at walmart and other stores like that! I got one for my pup and it seems to be doing its job!
Reply:I give my dogs a raw hide once a week and brush their teeth twice a week.

Why do Americans have such poor dental hygiene?

as an Englishman i recently visited the USA and was amazed at the poor state of the teeth of many of its inhabitants.

I would roughly say 94% of Americans dont own a toothbrush

Why do you chaps pay no attention to your teeth, it is becoming a bit of a stereotype of American people.

Why do Americans have such poor dental hygiene?
Not sure who you met up with but my impression is they take more care over dental hygiene than those in the UK. They are really into flossing as well and that has not caught on so well here for a start.
Reply:Yeah and they say WE have bad teeth! Idiots! They look at their own TV and films and presume they are all like that!
Reply:LMAO.

It is because nobody has dental insurance anymore. If you've monitored the debacle on health insurance over here, it is much much much much worse for dental.
Reply:Amazingly most americans have the same concept pertaining to Brits. I guess it is just a matter of with whom you interact.
Reply:94% don't own toothbrushes? I am curious to see the answers from the poll you held to come up with that number.

Troll.
Reply:I think you in fact stepped in then off your plan and in fact was touring your own country. Have any orthodontists there?
Reply:Haven't you asked this question before? 94 %.... and where did that figure come from?? Stretching the truth and being insulting for no apparent reason seems to be quite the stereotype of the English, eh????
Reply:Why do Brits have such poor dental hygiene?

as an Bostonian i recently visited the that little island and was amazed at the poor state of the teeth of many of its inhabitants.

Why do you chaps pay no attention to your teeth, it is becoming a bit of a stereotype of British people. Dodgy chicklets I say.....
Reply:Ha! Ha!.... I love satire! A Brit saying Americans have bad teeth! That's like saying that its a shame that there are no American women who have the beauty of the Queen... LOL!
Reply:well let me tell you with all respect...I am a Hispanic an a US citizen...I used to have all kinds friends all over the world...And yes Englishman etc. are the ones that I see they have that problem and I say is English people that have what you say about Americans so that is my poor know ledges about all different types of people all over the world and all their teeth's are misplaced not good looking teeth's I dump a English guy because I didn't like his teeth's so what is the odds of that?... You most won't like what I say but this is my truth...
Reply:its hard for american dentists to work on a nations mouth when they like the sound of their own voices so much and actually believe what they say is important, and thats when they havent got mouthfuls of mcdonalds
Reply:ROFLMAO

You being an Englishman, have no room to talk. I was wondering it the UK had dentists at all. You people have some of the nastiest teeth I've ever seen. You actually think the the huge part in the front two teeth looks good?

ROFLMAO!!!
Reply:I visit the Key's in Florida regularly and have never saw an American with bad teeth yet in fact quite the opposite their teeth are whiter than white.
Reply:You must have been in a lot of American bathrooms to check out the toothbrush scene...ignoring that ,we have the reality that the government does not fix our teeth,if one is lucky they will have welfare coupons of sorts when they can get an appointment and this will likely be to have their teeth yanked out,no cosmetic dentistry here for free mate...a set of false teeth here on sale is $1000...dental insurance from the job will likely only cover 15-20 percent of a bill the size of Lady Liberty,a root canal and or crown your looking at $800 per tooth average.I think a survey would be in order to see who has the most false teeth per household in the US or Britain?
Reply:You are completely mistaken. Americans are very fanatical about dental hygiene. Most can't afford to go to the dentist because they don't have health insurance.

Why do Brits ask such ill-informed, unfounded questions?

And if you want to go into curious dental configurations, just look around you.

I know you probably won't give me best answer but that's OK, I just wanted to give you a reality check. Your question is rude and obnoxious.
Reply:i dont know who you met here in America but if its one thing Americans spend money on its their bodies. i dont believe that you even came here to America
Reply:well they aren't going to put stuff in their mouths that they can't eat, so toothpaste and a toothbrush is a nono!

plus brushing takes away precious eating time!
Reply:Poor dental hygiene, and poor brain capacity too, many of USA people believe the G.W. Bush lies.
